Editorial policy

1. Mission

Cursiv is an independent political newsroom. We cover politics, public power, Congress, the courts, city halls, bills and fact-checking. The job is accurate, sourced work in the public interest — no sensationalism, no sold-off story list.

2. Independence

We have no financial or editorial deal with a party, government, company or advertiser that conditions coverage.

What we publish, how we frame it and how we read it is a desk decision, based on relevance, accuracy and what the reader needs to know.

3. Fact and reading

Facts, process and sources come first. When Cursiv interprets — electoral effect, what is still missing, institutional risk — that is labeled as editorial reading, not as a settled fact.

4. Editorial and commercial

Ads, affiliates and sponsors do not pick the headline or the frame. Paid or supported work is labeled “Sponsored,” “Partner” or the equivalent.

5. Corrections

Factual errors are fixed when we find them or when someone writes in. Material corrections stay on the article. We do not erase the record — we correct in public.

6. Accuracy

We look for a primary source before publishing. Data, statistics and quotes carry their origin. Forecasts and estimates are presented as such. If we could not check independently, the text says so.

7. Coverage

• Politics and power — the presidency, campaigns, policy and effect;
• Congress and bills — process, change and what is still missing;
• Courts — rulings, cases and limits;
• Cities — local government, budgets and service;
• Fact check and explainers — verification and context.
